Eli Gershkovitch and Steamworks Craft Beer

A microbrewery is a tradition that began in England during the 1970’s. It is the process of creating specially handcrafted beers such as ales, stouts and IPAs referred to as “Craft beers”. It differs from commercial brewing in the sense that these micro breweries are run by independent brewers who accentuate their personalized style of flavor, technique, and quality into their beer. During the past decade, Canada has experienced an upsurge of local, family-owned craft brewing operations, particularly among the west coast.

One such craftsman named Eli Gershkovitch has shared his success story subsequent to opening a microbrewery in Vancouver, Canada. Previously a lawyer, Gershkovitch opened Steamworks Brew Pub in 1995 in Vancouver, British Columbia during a time in which no one believed he would be successful. He states that he was not moving forwards as a lawyer in a way he felt satisfying, thus fueling his desire to introduce the concept of a beer hall where people could drink beer where the beer was being made. The operation was successful and Eli Gershkovitch now runs a 754 brew pub in the Gastown area of Vancouver (http://vancouverfoodster.com/tag/eli-gershkovitch/). He has been credited as a conductive figure in helping transform the Gastown area into a crowd-pleasing spot for local residents.

Not only has Eli Gershkovitch been successful with the establishment of Steamworks Brew Pub but in 2013 he broadened his horizons by partnering with Walter Cosman to install a 30,000 square foot and 40,000-hectolitre capacity brewery merely 6 months after announcing his very own bottled version of Steamworks Craft Beer. Here, Eli Gershkovitch receives international success where his very own brand of Steamworks pale ale is brewed, bottled and marketed to multiple provinces across Canada and 14 U.S. states, including countries like Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Hong Kong. His beer is known to come in several different forms and flavors with different names for each as follows:

  • Summer Ale
  • Summer Mash Up
  • Flagship Ipa
  • Tall Can Mash-Up
  • Pilsner
  • Jasmine IPA
  • Heroica Red Ale
  • Killer Cucumber
  • Pale Ale
  • Kolsch
  • Tropical Tart Ale
  • Session IPA
